Arts Education

Leading the final circle of our troop’s first Storytelling-themed Indoor Overnight

I was born, as I believe all of us were, with a drive for expression. As natural-born storytellers, we learn and grow as a community through the telling, listening, and sharing of our stories. That’s why I have been dedicated to arts education as a teacher and administrator since 1998.

I began my career as an arts educator and administrator, creating the first WASC-accredited Drama Department for a Ventura County college preparatory boarding school in the late nineties.

I went on to become a producing and creative administrator at three different theatre companies, launching educational theatre outreach programs, teaching after-school drama programs in elementary and junior high schools, instructing and producing summer Shakespeare camps for pre-teens and running conservatory theatre classes for all ages.

I successfully secured grant funding for educational outreach and new play development at two different theatres in downtown Manhattan and the greater Los Angeles area.

During my time in New York City as an actor, I created and taught at a summer theatre day camp for at-risk youth from the Bronx and Brooklyn at Manhattan Theatre Source in 2007.

Upon returning to the west coast to pursue a career as a writer, I began volunteering as a creative writing mentor with the nonprofit organization WriteGirl and have been an active member working with at-risk girls in LA and Los Angeles Juvenile Detention Camps since 2014.

I have been employed as a teaching artist with Cultivating Creative Minds, teaching in-school drama programs to elementary school students in the Sulphur Springs School District in Santa Clarita, California.

As a faculty member of the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, I also taught Screenwriting to ninth grade students through the Los Angeles County Office of Education.

I currently volunteer as a Girl Scout troop leader, focusing on outdoor education, STEAM learning, and community service. I have also been vice president of the board of the Golden Oak PTA for two years, raising money for in-school arts education and STEAM programs.

It is my intention to continue my involvement with arts education in my community for the rest of my life.
